East Manchester and Manchester Charities Awards
Charities Awards Application
In 1880, the Connell family of St. Mark’s Church, West Gorton decided to form a football team. By providing their community with the opportunity to play football, they hoped to reduce the number of those suffering from the effects of long-term unemployment, health issues and fear of crime as a result of social deprivation. The club evolved to become Manchester City Football Club.
In the spirit of the Connell family’s contribution to its local community, Manchester City Football Club has introduced three new strands of its nationally acclaimed ‘City In The Community (CITC) Giving’ strategy. Manchester City F.C. will select one charity to support for the period of one year from the Manchester City F.C. Greater Manchester Charity Award up to the value of £50,000 each and up to seven Connell Awards up to the value of £5,000 each to individuals representing urban sports clubs in East Manchester.
