Just a few days until the transfer window closes and, as you’d imagine, City are being linked with every man and his dog.
Let’s get straight down to business and begin with The Guardian, where Andy Hunter is mulling over ten possible late deals – not all City's, though the Blues, of course, get a mention, with Daniel Agger still reportedly a target – this despite Roberto Mancini denying interest in the player.
He writes: “’Agger was never a target,’ said Roberto Mancini at Anfield on Sunday. So why include him on the list? Because Manchester City did in fact make a £20m bid and have never completely backed away from signing the Dane.”
Hunter goes on to speculate a bid in excess of £25m may do the trick.
Tim Rich in The Independent believes another player linked continuously with the Blues will not be heading to Manchester after all.
“It seems likely they (City) will miss out on their most important target, Javi Martinez, who is likely to go to Munich rather than Manchester," claims Rich.
“As a centre-half who can also play as a holding midfielder, the 23-year-old would fill a significant gap at the Etihad. However, Bayern Munich have declared themselves wiling to pay the the full £32m buy-out clause of Martinez’s Athletic Bilbao contract.”
The Sun’s Martin Blackburn links the Blues to a couple of late deals with at least one familiar name cropping up for the umpteenth time – Daniele De Rossi.
Claiming Mancini is keeping his options open in case those who top his wish-list are unobtainable, Blackburn writes: “Mancini faces a race against time to sign his top targets De Rossi and Martinez. So the the City boss had Benfica’s Javi Garcia watched this week as he works on a ‘Plan B’.
“The champions are set to complete their second signing of the summer within 24 hours, when Scott Sinclair arrives for £6m from Swansea.
“City know deals for £31m-rated Bilbao star Martinez and Roma skipper De Rossi could be difficult to push through before Friday’s deadline.”
Finally, The Daily Mail’s ‘Screamer’ column believes City are close to bringing a promising young defender on board. They claim: “Manchester City are closing in on a deal for Fiorentina defender Matija Nastasic.
“City had initially wanted the 19-year-old as part of a transfer for the Italian side’s Steven Jovetic, but with that part of the deal uinlikely, they have placed an offer of around £8m for the Serbian centre-half. City may allow Stefan Savic to go the other way as part of the deal.”
As ever, we will have to wait and see if any of these deals actually happen – don’t go far from mcfc.co.uk for any official business the Club conducts in the next few days.
