Residents close to Maine Road will soon be seeing blue once again!
The council plans to lay blue tarmac on ‘Blue Moon Way,’ in tribute to the Blues’ former home.
City legends Mike Summerbee and Tony Book have fixed the official sign for the road, which runs in front of the Maine Place housing development.
"This tribute is a great way of linking the rich heritage of Moss Side with its future development," said Councillor Jim Battle, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council.
"It's poignant that primary school children have been involved in honouring an era which their parents and grandparents will remember with such affection."
Blue Moon Way by was named by schoolchildren at nearby Divine Mercy Primary, in honour of the club’s famous terrace anthem.
Maine Place will eventually have more than 300 energy-efficient houses and apartments and some will be named after former City greats like Malcolm Allison, Shaun Goater and Uwe Rosler.
The blue tarmac will go down on Blue Moon Way when the housing development has been completed.
